The tour

[3] hours of Rotterdam, one tasting at a time

[10] tastings, counted out loud and sized like food. One local guide, a group small enough to talk to, and a route that starts at the Markthal and ends somewhere most visitors never find.

The tasting philosophy

Skip lunch. We mean it.

The most common one-star review of food tours anywhere reads the same: promised tastings, delivered toothpicks. So we count ours out loud, plate them like food, and put the savory ones first where they belong. If you finish this tour hungry, something went wrong and we want to hear about it.

The route

Three chapters, one story

The city was flattened in 1940 and chose to build forward instead of back. The route follows that choice, from the market hall everyone knows to the streets and waterfronts the rebuild created. About 3 km of easy, flat walking.

The Markthal, used properly

Every Rotterdam food story starts under the arch. We use it as a launch pad: the Dutch classics, done by the right stalls, while the building itself tells the first story. Then we leave before it turns into a queue.

The streets that fed the rebuild

West-Kruiskade and around: Chinese bakeries, Surinamese lunch counters, flavors that arrived with the people who rebuilt this city. This is where Rotterdam actually eats, and where most tours never go.

Across the water

A water taxi hop across the Maas to Katendrecht, the old sailors' quarter, for the harbor chapter of the story and a seated finale.

[This leg is an open decision: it may become a city-side finale instead]

What is included

  • Counted, generous tastings, savory first. This replaces lunch, not a snack between meals
  • Drinks along the way: local beer, wine or a non-alcoholic choice
  • One English-speaking local guide, start to finish
  • The exact meeting point with a photo, sent before the day
  • Dietary needs arranged with each stop at booking, not improvised on the spot

What is not

  • Extra drinks beyond the included ones. Order what you like, pay only for that.
  • Gratuity. Never expected, always appreciated.

Practical

  • [Meeting point: locked after the scouting day]
  • Rain or shine. Rotterdam rain is real, so most tastings happen indoors and dry.
  • Flat the whole way. This city does not do hills.
  • [Cancellation policy: to confirm]

What guests say

Sample reviews for preview. Real guest reviews replace these before launch.

Our guide greeted half the vendors by name. The Markthal stop alone was worth it, and we kept eating for two more neighborhoods after that.

Real portions, not toothpick bites. We skipped lunch like they said and still could not finish the last stop.
Sample, family of four
The water taxi across the Maas was the moment the city clicked. You see the skyline, then you eat under it.
